Welcome! My name is Alicia, and my mission is to encourage learning and curiosity about the world around us through dance, writing, and hands-on immersive experiences.

                                                               I am a December 2021 graduate of Michigan State University’s                                                                   Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, and I also hold                                                                   minors in Dance and Arts and Culture Management. My areas of                                                             experience are primarily in the performing arts fields of dance,                                                                   theatre, and orchestra. My areas of study have also allowed me to                                                          learn about the world of museums and curatorial work, and I have                                                       found a particular passion in the field of garment and textile history in                                                     the United States.

 

As the pandemic has raged over the last year and hurt so many of the industries I love, I have been forced to take a step back and reevaluate exactly where I want to go after I leave school. As much as the performing arts have been my home throughout my life, the unexpected love of sewing and creating things I discovered over lockdown has opened my eyes to something I had never considered before for myself. In any field, I know that I would be happiest and most successful in a position where I am able to share my passion with others and challenge myself to be the best artist I can be, whatever the medium. I thrive on the excitement of learning new skills and ideas and sharing those with others who hold the same curiosity. Whether this is in the setting of a performance, a museum, or a classroom, I know that the idea of learning is what inspires me, especially outside of a traditional school setting. As a student who has previously struggled in this typical mold, I understand the value and importance of these experiential learning opportunities more than most. There is incredible power and freedom in the act of learning without expectation, and simply being able to enjoy discovering something novel about yourself and the world around you in a manner that is most fulfilling to you. By inspiring others to take the leap and learn simply for the sake of learning, our whole society benefits, and education becomes a joining force instead of one that can divide.

 

Wherever my next steps take me, I am hopeful that my future career will be fulfilling and satisfy the lifelong learner in me and inspire more along the way.
